I'm a post-exit entrepreneur, General Partner at Traction Capital, and someone who's spent the last year learning how much we don't teach people about building real relationships.
In 2006, I started Modern Automotive Performance out of a bedroom closet with no real plan beyond figuring it out as I went. By 2011, we'd hit #403 on the Inc. 500 list with an 845% three-year growth rate. By 2020, we were doing $44M in revenue with about 80 people. I sold the company at the end of that year and spent the next 15 months helping with the transition.
In 2022, I joined Traction Capital as a General Partner. I work with portfolio companies as a Strategic Growth Partner, facilitating the kind of strategic planning sessions that help founders move from chaos to some version of clarity. I use a lot of what I learned the hard way at MAP, the systems and frameworks that actually made a difference when things got messy.
I'm a member of Entrepreneurs' Organization, where I served as chapter president and continue to coach early-stage founders through their Accelerator program.
I've been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Inc. Magazine, and Minnesota Business talking about entrepreneurship, eCommerce, and what it actually takes to scale.
Separate from the facilitation work, I'm writing a book about adult friendship. Specifically, how we're never taught to build relationships the way we're taught to build resumes or businesses. I started researching this after realizing how many people hit their 30s and 40s with no real framework for maintaining the friendships that matter. The book will be out in 2026.
I live in Cottage Grove, Minnesota with my wife Heather and our two daughters. I'm an introvert who values a few deep friendships over a wide network. I'm a Wild season ticket holder, play beer league hockey multiple times a week, and think a lot about how to build a life that actually matters beyond the work.
