jour·ney /ˈjərnē/

noun

1. an act of traveling from one place to another.

Life is not a journey. The end, your final destination, is not the point of the effort. In the video above Alan Watts, a prolific author and philosopher, suggests that life is more of a “musical thing” and we are supposed to sing or to dance while the music is being played. Dancing with the goal of reaching a specific point in the room or singing with the intent to reach the end of the song as quickly as possible sounds absurd.

That, he posits, is how we should perceive life.

If you don’t allow yourself to be happy until you’ve obtained that “great thing” you are striving for then you’re depriving yourself of all of the joy you could have experienced along the way. I’m not suggesting you don’t work hard, set goals, or plan for the future. I’m simply suggesting…

The whole point of the dancing is the dance.
